Modifying the ARB Locker Wiring Harness for Independent Front/Rear Operation |
The ARB wiring harness comes stock requiring the rear locker to be engaged before the front locker can be engaged. While this is fine for legal requirements, real-world trail situations sometimes necessitate engaging the front locker without engaging the rear.
It should be noted that this modification will void any warranty you may have, and should not be performed unless you have some knowledge of electronics and are competent with a soldering iron. In addition, I am not responsible for any consequential or inconsequential damage, loss, or injury you may incur as a result of performing this modification. If you perform this modification, you do so entirely at your own risk.
If you examine the wiring harness schematic, you will see that power from the ISOLATOR SWITCH (compressor power switch) is applied to the red wire on CONN #1. When PUSHBUTTON 1 is engaged, power is sent from the yellow wire of CONN #1 to the yellow wire of CONN #2.
To make the switches independent, you need to disconnect CONN #2's yellow wire from CONN #1, and connect it to the red wire of CONN #1. This changes the switched power source to a constant power source.
Note: This mod will work for all versions of ARB harnesses, not just Toyota 4x4's. However, if you notice that the wiring colours are different, have a look at the schematic and you should be able to figure it out.
